【Macroscopic Features】
Flat cylindrical shape or has one slightly thin end, 8~21cm long, 2~5cm diameter. Externally reddish-brown to dark brown, wrinkled, creating thick and large grooves or irregular impressions, sometimes can see triangular scales, and some remnants of inflorescence. Hard texture, hard to break, fractured surface is slightly granular, brown, soft and moistened. faintly aromatic odor, slightly bitter and astringent taste. Suo yang slices are horizontally cut or angular cut thick slices, about 1cm thick, often bound.
